Santorini is one of the most beautiful islands in the world. The blues and the whites make it a beautiful holiday destination for travellers around the world. We visited Greece for a vacation in 2015 and our first destination was Athens followed by Santorini. We spent some awesome days here. On the first day we visited Oia and saw the beautiful sunset. The second day was reserved for the cruise ride. On the third day, we hired a bike (buggy) and drove around the island. And this was the best part of our vacation. I always imagined having a map in my hand and travelling around an unknown place. This was a dream come true. Here are the spots we visited:
1. Kamari Beach(B)
This beach lies under the mountain of Messa Vuono. The black sand beach has stone-paved promenade along the beach for walking. The beach is surrounded by many cafes, supermarkets and restaurants.
Pyrgos is the highest village in Santorini and gives a panoramic view of both the sides of the island. There are some lovely blue domed churches all around. There are some cute galleries and shops which are hidden in the corners. You can buy various souvenirs from these. We climbed up to the highest point of the village and spent sometime at a restaurant there. The view was amazing.
3. Perissa beach(D)
Another beach that is on the other side of the Messa Vuono and we were greeted with black sands. By the time we reached Perissa beach, it had started drizzling. The wind was passionately cruising against us on our bikes. We got off and went to a nearby coffee shop. Sipping hot cup of coffee, we enjoyed the lovely breeze. A great beach to lounge around for hours and the scenic view this beach offers is worth every second of time that you spend here.
This is a very quiet and traditional village. We parked our vehicle and roamed around. It has these narrow alleys which look scary. We found a chain of restaurants and supermarkets, and had a delicious lunch there.
5. Akrotiri Lighthouse(F)
The ride from Megalachori to the Akrotiri Lighthouse is beautiful beyond comprehension. It gives the view of the caldera and the sea. The green patches around the roads are lovely. The lighthouse is a major tourist spot and is situated on the extreme southwest end of the island. It was manufactured in 1892 by a French company. I would recommend to visit this super romantic spot around sunset.
6. Skaros Rock(G)
Skaros is a rocky head that protrudes out into the deep blue Aegean Sea. We reached here just in time to catch the sunset. The breathtaking view of the rock during sunset was a treat to our eyes. The dazzling landscape attracts a lot of tourists here. The neighbourhood is full of beautiful restaurants and hotels which overlook the scenic beauty of the rock. This was our final spot and we headed back to our hotel after the sunset. This was one of the most beautiful rides of my life and I am going to cherish each moment for a lifetime.
